Observations

The archive of creatures read in Assess Mode: 3D model, species, abilities, average EP across readings, where the file is stored.

Released Interface v0.0.4 3 min read

The Observations (kanji 観測) are the archive of everything Great Sage has already read in Assess mode. Every creature successfully analysed leaves an entry: its 3D model, its species, its abilities grouped by class and its average existence value over every reading. Where the Assess window only lists five abilities, because you read it with the creature in front of you, here nothing is urgent and the entry gives everything.

How an entry fills up

  • Only a successful Assess reading creates or updates an entry. A failure teaches nothing and is not recorded. Defeating a creature counts as observing it for Growth XP, but does not create an entry.
  • Seeing the same species again does not duplicate it: the new reading completes the existing entry.
  • EP is kept as an average. The mod stores the sum of the readings and their count, and shows the average with the number of readings next to it. Two goblins are not equally strong and an individual grows: keeping the last number seen would be keeping an accident.
  • Health is the highest value ever read.
  • Abilities come from the latest reading: a creature that evolved in the meantime does not drag its past along. Only resistances the creature has really mastered are listed, never latent ones (up to 40 abilities per entry, rarest first).
  • A named individual gets its own entry. A subordinate you named is not melted into its species average: it has its own skills, and that is exactly what you want to keep.

The page

The list shows each entry with its name and average EP, strongest first by default. Click a row to open the entry full page; click the Sage or Esc to go back to the list.

The entry shows:

Section Content
Portrait The creature's 3D model in a square frame, scaled to its real size (an addon entity that refuses to exist outside the world shows without a portrait)
Species Its race according to Tensura
Average existence value The average of the readings
Observations How many readings the average is based on
Health The highest value read
Abilities Grouped by class, rarest first, in a single scrolling column

Search, filter, sort

The magnifier searches the name and the species. The funnel opens the criteria (right-click it to reset everything):

Criterion Options Type
Carries the classes found: keeps creatures that have at least one skill of that class combinable
Mod the creature's mod combinable
Sort by Existence value · Name · Abilities · Readings · Last seen single
Order Ascending · Descending (descending by default) single

Where the file lives

Game mode Location
Singleplayer greatsage-observations.json, inside the save folder itself. It dies with the world, survives a rename and follows a copy of the world.
Multiplayer .minecraft/greatsage-observations/<server address>.json, on your computer

The file is readable JSON. Deleting it empties that world's Observations without touching your progression: species and skill XP is kept separately, by the server, and a species already counted does not pay twice.

By voice

You say Answer
"how many have I scanned" The number of entries
"what is the strongest thing I have seen" The entry with the highest average EP
"tell me about goblin" That species' average EP, or "Never observed."
"have I scanned a …" On record or not
"open the observations" Opens the Sage menu

In this version, "forget …" answers "Setting changed." but erases no entry, and "have I seen this before" does not look at your target (name the species instead: "have I scanned a …"). The full list is on Voice command list.
