Magic Sense and auras

Magic Sense (N): the veil, the aimed being's name and EP, edge arrows, and every being's aura shaped by its EP, magicules and alignment.

Early access Mechanic v0.0.7 4 min read

Magic Sense (key N) lends you the sight of one of Tensura's sensing skills. A violet veil falls over the world, magicule currents drift with your gaze, and every living being is wrapped in an aura that hugs its silhouette, like a Super Saiyan's or Haki: its size tells its existence value, its density the magicules it has left, its colour its alignment. At a glance you know who is a threat and who is not.

Turning the sense on

  • "Magic Sense" key, N by default, in the Great Sage category of Controls. Press again to turn it off.
  • Or by voice: "magic sense", "magicule sense", "detect magic". See Voice command list.
  • You need one of Tensura's sensing skills: Magic Sense (魔力感知), Universal Perception (万能感知) or All Seeing Eye (全能者の眼). Without one, the Sage answers 告 未取得: "Notice. You have no sensing skill (Magic Sense, Universal Perception...)."
  • The key does not need the Great Sage: only the sensing skill matters. The voice command, like every voice command, does need the Sage.
  • If you lose the skill while the sense is on, it switches itself off.
  • When it turns on, the Sage says "Magic Sense: activated." and a ripple runs across the screen.

What the sense shows

Element Details
Veil Violet, with magicule currents anchored to your gaze
Every being's aura Drawn in the world, around the body (see below)
Aimed being Its name and EP above it, in its alignment colour (the being closest to the centre of the screen, up to 48 blocks)
Edge arrows For beings outside your view, up to 48 blocks: only hostile ones and those with at least half your EP

Entity auras

The aura is a flame that hugs the being's shape (the body itself stays almost bare), tapering above the head, split into rising tongues, with a bright rim and sparks.

Colour: alignment

Colour Who
Violet Majin
White-gold Holy, and any Hero Egg or True Hero
Red Chaos
Green Neutral (default alignment)

Size: existence value

Size follows EP on a logarithmic scale: every order of magnitude shows, from a goblin to a demon lord.

Being's EP Aura
100 or less A thin rim
1,000 A clear rim
10,000 A flame around the body
100,000 A flame reaching well past the silhouette
≈ 240,000 and up Zigzag lightning appears, fully visible around 1,000,000
1,000,000 A flame about one body height beyond the silhouette
10,000,000 Almost three times as big as at one million
≈ 100,000,000 and up Maximum size, about five times that of one million

Past one million the aura keeps growing (about × 2.8 per order of magnitude): colossal power never looks like a merely tough opponent.

Density: magicules left

The brightness and thickness of the flame follow the being's current magicules over its maximum: a being running dry only keeps a pale aura, however powerful it is.

Range and visibility

  • Auras are drawn up to auraRange (40 blocks by default). The most massive ones can be seen from further away, up to twice that range (past twenty-odd million EP). Above roughly 2.5 million EP, an aura keeps 65% of its brightness at a distance, against 25% for the others: you should see it coming.
  • An aura fades out from 40% of its visibility distance.
  • Through walls (auraThroughWalls, on by default): a hidden being keeps a paler aura (45% brightness), drawn over the terrain, but only up to 24 blocks (or your range if it is shorter).
  • At most auraMaxEntities auras at once (24), closest first: lower it if a crowded base or a mob farm slows the game down while the sense is on.
  • Invisible beings have no aura. Your own shows in third person view.
