Gamerules

Great Sage's six gamerules: who hears announcements, whether the Sage answers, whether it grows, the birth scene, shader rendering and the server-wide Voice of the World.

Released Configuration v0.0.4 3 min read

What concerns everyone in a world is set with gamerules, not a config file: on a server, every player is subject to it the same way. Great Sage adds six, all booleans, filed under the "Player" category. Change them in game with /gamerule (operator rights, or cheats enabled in singleplayer), with no restart; the server sends them to clients right away.

Gamerule Default Since Effect when true
needGreatSage false 0.0.4 Skill announcements and ceremonies are reserved for players carrying the Great Sage (or a Raphael).
sageInterface true 0.0.6 The Sage answers: menu, Assess Mode, voice, analysis.
sageProgression true 0.0.6 The Sage starts limited and grows in its tree.
sageReincarnation true 0.0.6 The Voice of the World scene replaces Tensura's reincarnation screen.
sageShaderRendering true 0.0.7 Menu, announcements and ceremonies are painted by shader.
worldVoice true 0.0.7 The Voice of the World announces awakenings and the Harvest Festival to the whole server.

needGreatSage

By default, announcements and ceremonies count as game display and are offered to everyone. When true, the mod becomes "diegetic": it is the Sage itself talking to you, so you must carry it. Without the skill, no voice, no animation for your acquisitions and ceremonies.

sageInterface

False: no menu, no Assess Mode, no voice, no analysis — for anyone, skill or not. Skill announcements and ceremonies keep going. This is for servers that want the look without the tool.

sageProgression

True: the Sage can only analyse Intrinsic and Common skills at first, and opens up through its growth tree. False: the pre-0.0.6 behaviour, every rank analysable, no slot to earn.

sageReincarnation

True: a new character goes through the reincarnation scene (draw your wishes, then pick your species), and the Unique Tensura rolls at first login is suppressed. False: Tensura's original screen, untouched. It also governs the narrated birth of Rimuru mode.

sageShaderRendering

True: the menu key opens the Sage's console, announcements are redrawn, the five ceremonies and species evolution become full-screen scenes (see Ceremonies and evolutions), and the birth plays on the Sea of Souls. False: the old menu and old announcements, untouched. Both say and do the same things; only the rendering changes. Useful if your graphics card struggles or a shader pack interferes.

worldVoice

True: when a player awakens as a True Demon Lord or a True Hero, or enters their Harvest Festival, everyone else hears it, with a banner at the top of the screen. False: no general announcements at all, including those another server mod would send through /greatsage worldvoice. Each player can also turn them off for themselves (client setting worldVoice). See The Voice of the World.
