The Voice of the World
世界の言葉, the voice of the world itself: it brings you into being, receives the Great Sage's petitions and, since 0.0.7, announces other players' awakenings and Harvest Festivals to the whole server.
In Tensura, the Great Sage is not the only voice speaking inside the characters' heads. Above it, there is the Voice of the World (世界の言葉, Sekai no Kotoba): the one that grants skills at birth, receives evolution petitions, and announces to the whole planet the birth of a new Demon Lord. Great Sage gives it a voice of its own, distinct from the Sage's, and three roles.
1. It brings you into being
It runs the reincarnation scene (0.0.6): it confirms the death, asks for the wishes, reads the figures, announces every gift and guides the species choice. All those lines are its own — during the birth, the mod never uses one of the Sage's lines.
In 0.0.7 it has 202 voice lines of its own: its sentences (findings, questions, reactions, refusals…), the skill ranks, close to a hundred skill names spoken in its voice, species names, and the lines specific to the episode 1 story played in Rimuru mode. A skill whose name is not recorded in its voice yet keeps its name and kanji on screen; the announcement simply skips the sound.
2. It answers the Sage
When your species evolves, the Great Sage addresses a petition to the Voice of the World and waits for its answer (see Ceremonies and evolutions). Raphael's evolution starts the same way: "Unique Skill Great Sage submits an evolution request to the Voice of the World" (see Raphael's evolution). And in the True Demon Lord awakening scene, it is the Voice that circles the planet to announce the birth of a new Demon Lord.
3. It speaks to the whole server
As in the story, some events concern more than one player. When one happens, every other connected player hears it — even those who do not carry the Great Sage, and even if the needGreatSage gamerule is on:
| Event | On screen (EN) | Japanese |
|---|---|---|
| True Demon Lord awakening | Notice. Individual X: awakening as a True Demon Lord confirmed. | 告。個体名:X ── 真なる魔王への覚醒を確認しました |
| Start of a Harvest Festival | Notice. Individual X begins the evolution into a Demon Lord. The Harvest Festival begins. | 告。個体名:X ── 魔王への進化を開始。収穫祭を開始します |
| True Hero awakening | Notice. Individual X: awakening as a True Hero confirmed. | 告。個体名:X ── 真なる勇者への覚醒を確認しました |
The player it happens to does not get the banner: they already have their own ceremony.
The banner
A black circle segment comes down from the top edge of the screen, "VOICE OF THE WORLD" slides into it, and the sentence shows underneath, translated into your game language, while the Voice speaks. The line never says a name: the voice states, the screen names. If several events happen at once, they wait their turn (up to six queued).
Silencing the Voice
| Where | Setting | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| World / server | /gamerule worldVoice false |
No general announcements at all, for anyone. |
| On your side | worldVoice = false in greatsage-client.toml (or the Settings and What's new) |
You no longer see or hear these announcements; others still do. |
Testing
/greatsage worldvoice test <true_demon_lord|harvest_festival|true_hero> (operator) plays the announcement to you alone, with your own name, exactly as others would hear it. It follows the gamerule and your client setting: if the gamerule is off, the command says so.
For servers and other mods
The Voice of the World is open: a server or a mod can have it announce its own events, without depending on Great Sage, with the command
/greatsage worldvoice <targets> "<clip>" <Japanese as JSON> <text as JSON>
(permission level 2). The clip is a Great Sage sound key or another mod's sound id (namespace:name); an empty clip gives a silent announcement. Both texts are JSON components, so they can be translated. Java mods can also go through the mod's API.
