Nia Honjo

The Spirit of Chokmah and her book, Rasiel. She barely strikes at all: she reads, raises walls of pages, unleashes MARIA and her guardians, then locks everyone inside her library.

Early access Boss v0.0.2 6 min read

Nia Honjo, Spirit of Chokmah, is one of Date a Slime's seven Spirit bosses. She wields Rasiel, the book that knows everything — and she fights the way she reads: she opens a file on everyone, shuts down ranged attacks with walls of pages, unleashes the copies of MARIA, calls iron golems and finally raises her Phantom Library around the whole fight. With 4,500 health and no melee attack at all, she is the most fragile Spirit up close: whoever reaches her wins fast, whoever stays back and shoots will almost never touch her.

  • Angel: Rasiel (sephirah Chokmah), which she calls on first contact and calls again if it disappears.
  • Where to find her: at the centre of her sky sanctum, an open-air library perched above Y 222.
  • Summon her: /summon dateaslime:nia.
  • She shares the AI of every Spirit: player profile, adaptation, stagger, one-shot guard, enrage after six minutes — see The Spirits.

Behaviour

Nia keeps her distance: around 18 blocks, 24 if you fight in melee, and only 13 when a wall or golems cover her. She likes high ground. She goes first for the players she has not read yet. She never strikes herself: all her damage goes through her pages and her library.

Phases

Phase Health What gets added
I 100% → 60% File, Wall of pages, MARIA, Side step
II 60% → 30% Three guardians; MARIA comes back more often
III below 30% Phantom Library

On every phase change she drops whatever she was preparing and the bar announces it.

Techniques

The file

When she sees a player she has not read, she opens their page (1.5 s) and announces it: "Nia reads you, player: role". The role named is the one you will have in her library — always the same one for you. What she read protects her: Resistance II (−40% damage) and Speed I for 12 seconds. She does not read the same player again for 90 seconds. Cooldown: 18 s.

Wall of pages

Three panels of pages rise side by side in front of her, facing her target, for 14 seconds. They swallow arrows, bullets and anything that flies, but not sword blows. She uses it all the more when you shoot from afar and when she is losing health. Cooldown: 16 s.

MARIA

"Nia turns her pages into MARIA": up to four pages fly out of the book and live for 30 seconds. Each one chases whoever last hurt Nia (up to 30 blocks away) and cuts them for 5 damage (2.5 hearts) every 0.8 seconds on contact. The pages cannot be harmed: you outrun them, you do not destroy them. More frequent against a group and from phase II. Cooldown: 22 s.

Side step

If you are within 8 blocks and she has just lost at least 4% of her health in a few seconds, she turns the page and teleports 12 blocks back, away from her target, if there is room. Cooldown: 13 s.

Three guardians (phase II)

"Nia writes three guardians into the world": three iron golems appear around her for 2 minutes. They leave no loot and no experience. Cooldown: 75 s.

Phantom Library (phase III)

A 2.3-second incantation — the boss bar starts pulsing — then the book's walls rise over a 16-block radius around her for 150 seconds. Everyone inside gets their role (the one from the file) and its effects; anyone trying to leave is pushed back towards the centre. On the last page, the villain takes 22 spiritual damage, the beast 14, and the hero and the princess are healed for 10 HP.

Role During the story At the end
The hero Strength I, Resistance I, Glowing +10 HP
The villain Strength II, Speed I, Glowing 22 damage
The fool Nausea, Slowness II, Mining Fatigue III —
The princess Weakness III, Resistance II, Regeneration I +10 HP
The beast Speed II, Jump Boost II, Blindness 14 damage

During the incantation Nia only takes 40% of the damage, but taking 3.5% of her health (158 HP) within 3 seconds staggers her and breaks the spell (as long as she has not already been staggered in the last 15 seconds) — which then goes on cooldown (200 s). If Nia dies, the library falls without its last page.

How to beat her

  • Get in close. She has no melee attack and little health. The walls only stop projectiles: walk around them, or through them sword in hand.
  • Archers have it worst: the wall of pages is made for them. A group mixing melee and ranged forces her to choose.
  • Hit in bursts: 315 HP in 3 seconds staggers her for 1.5 s (she then takes 25% more damage). Save a burst for the library's incantation.
  • Watch your role: if the file named you villain or beast, the library's last page is meant for you. The safest thing is to finish her before it comes.
  • Vary your damage: like every Spirit, she adapts to whatever you repeat.
  • Harmful effects barely take hold on her, and she carries a Spirit's resistances: some affinities work better than others.

Loot

  • 500 experience points.
  • 1% chance to drop her Qlipha Crystal of Chokmah (the Demon King Beelzebub), the starting point for earning Rasiel in survival — see Qlipha Crystals. The chance is set by the qliphaDropChance gamerule.
  • Nothing else drops from her: the rewards are in the three chests of her sanctum (books, paper, ink, lapis, copper… and sometimes an enchanted book, a name tag or a spyglass) — see The Sky Sanctums.

Respawn

Killed in her sanctum, Nia comes back three hours later (game time, server running), adjustable with the spiritRespawnMinutes gamerule. Pushed too far away (more than 72 blocks, or 24 below the arena), she is brought back to the centre. A Nia summoned with /summon does not come back.
