Sephira Extractor
The ritual machine that tears a Sephira Crystal out of a player's body: capture on the cross, a group ritual, and the victim loses their Angel and dies. Built for multiplayer servers.
The Sephira Extractor is a ritual machine about ten blocks long, built for multiplayer servers: a platform, two pillars and a cross to which you bind a player who carries an Angel. If the people around it carry the ritual through to the end, the machine tears their Sephira Crystal out through their chest — the victim loses their Angel and dies, and the crystal falls for whoever wants it.
Placing the machine
/give @s dateaslime:sephira_extractor
With the item in hand, right-click a block: the machine appears on the adjacent space, facing you, the ritual circles on your side and the cross lying behind. Only operators and players in creative can place it; anyone else reads "Only operators can place this machine." In survival the item is consumed; in creative it stays.
The machine snaps itself to the grid: an exact quarter turn, centred on a block. /summon dateaslime:sephira_extractor works too, but without choosing the orientation.
Removing it: /kill @e[type=dateaslime:sephira_extractor]. Its collision goes with it. The machine itself cannot be hit, pushed or burned.
Collision
The machine is solid thanks to invisible blocks ("Extractor Hull") that it places around itself and that follow its shape to the pixel: you step up onto the platform deck in a single stride. These blocks are unbreakable, invisible, cannot be targeted and drop nothing.
- At rest and during the capture: the platform and the lying cross are solid.
- Cross raised: the platform, the pillars and the standing cross are solid — except the victim's spot.
- While the cross is moving: only the platform is.
It only places its blocks in empty space — it never eats the terrain — and never on someone: an occupied space waits for the creature to leave.
How it unfolds
- At rest: cross lying on the platform, pillars underground.
- The capture: a player who meets the conditions (below) and stands on the platform or on the lying cross is pulled in within a second and lies down, arms spread. Players within 48 blocks read "Player has been bound to the cross.", and the victim "You are bound. Your power is sealed."
- The rising: for 5 seconds the cross rises, the pillars come out of the ground and the victim rises with it; then the ropes pull taut, and at 5.75 seconds the four circles light up in front of the machine.
- The ritual: players step into the circles and play five rounds of trials — full details on Extraction Ritual.
- Success or failure, then 30 seconds of rest.
Who can be captured
The machine checks who is standing on it twice a second. For it to take someone, all of these must hold:
| Condition | Otherwise, action-bar message |
|---|---|
| Not in creative (nor spectating, nor riding something) | "The cross ignores players in creative mode." |
| Carrying an Angel — any of the eight | "The cross finds no Sephira in you." |
| The cross is not resting | "The cross is still at rest (Ns)." |
Being escorted: at least extractorEscort other players within 12 blocks (1 by default) |
"The cross waits for your captors: a/b nearby." |
The escort is what makes it a place you are brought to, not one you get caught in by stepping on the wrong tile. At 0, the cross takes an Angel carrier even alone — handy for testing, not something to leave on a server. See Gamerules.
Chained, no escort needed: a player held by
Sealing Chains and dragged onto the platform is taken with no escort condition, and their chains dissolve on their own ("The chains dissolve: the cross takes Player."). That is the whole point of the chains.
If the victim carries several Angels, the machine only tears out one per ritual, in the order of the Tree: Keter, Chokmah, Binah, Chesed, Gevurah, Tiferet, Netzach, then Yesod.
The victim
While bound to the cross, the victim can do nothing:
- get off: sneaking does not free them;
- teleport: ender pearls and chorus fruit are refused (commands still go through: an administrator can always get them out);
- use skills: they are under the Segva effect, constantly renewed, which seals their powers (see
Status Effects); - die by another hand: they are invulnerable to everything except the extraction itself. An ally cannot finish them off to spare them their fate.
To save them there is only one way: make the ritual fail, by driving the officiants out of their circles — see Extraction Ritual.
Success
When the fifth round is played without three breaches, players within 48 blocks read "The Sephira tears free."
- For 2 seconds, a heartbeat, higher and higher, pounds in the victim's chest.
- Then the Sephira Crystal comes out of their chest, floats upward, and falls in front of the machine, where the officiants stand. It glows, never despawns and can be picked up after a little over two seconds.
- The victim loses the matching Angel, then dies on the spot: "Player had their Sephira torn out". This blow ("sephira_extraction" damage) ignores armour, enchantments, resistances and effects, and a Totem of Undying will not save them.
- The cross lowers, then the machine rests for 30 seconds.
The crystal you get is an ordinary Sephira Crystal: right-click, and the Angel changes hands. See
Sephira Crystals.
Failure
Three breaches, or nobody in the circles for 45 seconds: "The ritual collapses. The cross releases its captive." The cross lowers (a little over 5 seconds), the victim is set back on their feet at the front of the platform, their powers are returned, and the machine rests for 30 seconds before it can take anyone again.
If the victim disappears along the way (death, disconnection, changing dimension), the cross lowers empty. During the pull-in phase alone, the rest is then only 10 seconds.
The circles
Four circles with a 1.5-block radius, 9 blocks in front of the machine, fanned out facing the cross. One player per circle (whoever is closest to the centre counts). The victim obviously cannot occupy one. Those who stand in them chant: hands held out to the cross, rings of script and embers around them, the kanji of their trial above their head, emerald while the trial is on, gold if it holds, red if it breaks. How many are needed to start the ritual: the extractorOfficiants gamerule (1 by default).
Where to find one
Besides the ones operators place, a machine already stands in every Cathedral of the Extractor, the structure that generates in the world: in the choir, facing the nave, its four circles inlaid in the floor of the crossing.
