Scabbards and carrying weapons
Where your weapons hang when you don't hold them, and how to draw them with the R key.
In Slime Art Online, a weapon you are not holding doesn't vanish: it is carried on you, where its owner carries it in the anime. Swords hang at the hip in their scabbards, the Aincrad swords cross on the back, the bow is slung over the shoulder and the whip coils at the belt. Every nearby player sees it. One key, R, draws and sheathes with a proper gesture.

Where each weapon goes
| Place | Weapons | How |
|---|---|---|
| Left hip, in a scabbard | each sword has its own scabbard | |
| Back, in a scabbard | one alone sits diagonally, both cross in an X | |
| Back, slung | from the right shoulder to the left hip | |
| Right hip | coiled, hanging from the belt |
Only weapons in the hotbar count (plus the off hand for the Aincrad swords): a weapon stored in your inventory is not shown.
The hip scabbard
Only one sword "owns" the hip: the one you are holding if it is a scabbarded sword, otherwise the first one in your hotbar. The scabbard stays there as long as such a sword is in the hotbar — empty when the sword is in hand, hilt showing otherwise.
With R:
- a scabbarded sword in hand: you sheathe it; your hand goes back to the slot you drew from, else an empty slot, else the first slot that doesn't hold a sword;
- otherwise, a scabbarded sword in the hotbar: you draw it; the selected slot switches to it the moment your hand pulls it from the scabbard.
If you change slots yourself during the gesture, it is cancelled.
The back scabbards (Aincrad)
The Elucidator and the Dark Repulser are carried on the back as soon as they are in the hotbar or in the off hand. Alone, a scabbard sits diagonally, the hilt above the right shoulder; the two cross in an X: the sword in the main hand (or, with empty hands, the Elucidator) keeps the right shoulder, the other takes the left.
| Situation | What R does |
|---|---|
| No sword in hand, one Aincrad sword in the hotbar | draws it over the right shoulder |
| Empty hands, both in the hotbar | draws both at once, each hand over its own shoulder |
| One Aincrad sword in the main hand, the other in the hotbar | draws the second into the off hand |
| One Aincrad sword in the main hand, the other absent | sheathes it |
| Both in hand | sheathes both at once |
| An Aincrad sword in the off hand only | draws the other into the main hand if it is in the hotbar, otherwise sheathes the off hand |
The off hand. Drawing into the off hand swaps the off hand with the hotbar slot that held the sword: whatever you had in your off hand (a shield, a torch) takes its place in the hotbar. When you sheathe, the sword goes back to that slot and the item there returns to your off hand (unless it is a sword); otherwise the sword goes to an empty hotbar slot, then to the inventory. The slot is remembered even if you log out mid dual wield.
Who answers R
The key serves everyone, in this order:
- a hip-scabbard sword in the main hand: it answers;
- otherwise, an Aincrad sword in either hand: the back scabbards answer;
- otherwise, with no sword in hand: the first sword in the hotbar (divine or Aincrad) decides which one is drawn.
The bow and the whip
The bow and the whip have no scabbard: they are simply worn when they are in the hotbar without being held (the first of each kind). To take them, select their slot as usual: R doesn't concern them.
Rebinding the key
The key is called "Draw / sheathe divine sword", in the Slime Art Online category of the controls; R by default. See Controls.
