Sword Golem

The Administrator's giant of thirty golden swords: sweep, eleven-metre thrust and sword storm. 600 health.

In development Boss v0.0.1 4 min read

The Sword Golem is the giant the Administrator assembles from the thirty golden swords of the pillars on the Cathedral's top floor, with the Piety Module as its heart. Nearly six metres tall, it cuts everything, very fast, and only blows worthy of a Divine Object truly hurt it. It is Slime Art Online's first boss.

Summoning it

The golem does not appear in the world on its own. It is summoned with the Sword Golem Spawn Egg (the Spawn Eggs and Combat tabs of the creative inventory) or with /summon slimeartonline:sword_golem.

When it appears, the swords converge and assemble for 2 s: it is untouchable until assembled. It never despawns, doesn't change dimension and shows a purple boss bar.

Value
Health 600
Armor 20, toughness 12
Knockback resistance total: it can't be pushed, it shoves aside whatever it meets
Speed 0.3
Detection range 48 blocks
Targets the nearest player, and anyone who hurts it

Immunities: fire and lava, falling, drowning, freezing, suffocation, cactus, berry bushes, stalagmites, cramming, Wither, magic with no caster; no harmful effect (poison, weakness, slowness…) takes hold on it. Weak projectiles (under 8 damage: ordinary arrows, snowballs, a feebly thrown trident) bounce off without hurting it.

Its attacks

It chases its target and picks its blows by distance. During an attack it doesn't walk: it aims, then strikes.

Attack When Sequence Damage
Sweep target within 5.5 blocks twist, a step into the blow, then two 210° arcs in front of it: arms high at 0.6 s, arms low at 0.9 s 18 (high arc, 5.8 blocks) then 13 (low arc, 5.2 blocks), knockback
Thrust target between 5.5 and 11.5 blocks, in sight the arm folds and aims for 0.6 s, then the blade pierces at 0.8 s 24 to everything along 11 blocks, knockback; at most every 2.5 s
Sword storm target beyond 9 blocks, or golem wounded see below 9 per sword, 4.5 around a planted sword

Each blow only hits a given creature once. After a sweep it pauses for 0.7 s, after a thrust for 0.9 s.

Sword storm

The sword storm

It rears up, a violet circle is traced on the ground; from 0.7 s, twelve swords tear themselves from its body, one every 0.1 s, and rise into a crown above it. Each turns toward its target then dives in a straight line, at 1.7 blocks per tick, toward the point aimed at when it set off — a side-step dodges it. Whatever it crosses takes 9 damage; planted in the ground, it still wounds anything within 1.8 blocks (4.5). The swords are shared among nearby players (24 blocks), the golem's target getting the most.

Meanwhile its heart is exposed (from 0.7 s to about 4.5 s): it takes 50% more damage. At 4 s it recalls its swords, and it is reassembled at 5 s.

Value
Trigger target beyond 9 blocks and in sight, or, below 75% health, a one-in-three chance at each decision
Swords 12
Cooldown 16 s (the first no sooner than 8 s after it appears)
Weakness exposed heart: damage taken × 1.5

Phases

  • Above 75% health, it only uses the storm if you stay far away: hug it, or stand between 5.5 and 11.5 blocks to face only sweeps and thrusts.
  • Below 75%, the storm can come even in melee. It is also your best window: side-step the swords and strike the exposed heart.

Death and loot

When it dies, its heart bursts and the thirty swords scatter into light over 2.5 s; players within 48 blocks read: "The memories bound to the thirty swords are set free..."

Loot Amount
Gold ingots 8 to 14
Gold blocks 1 to 2
Memory Fragment 1

The loot glows and stays on the ground longer than usual.
