Trace and Unit IDs
Target a unit by the ID read in its Stacia Window: your elements hunt it wherever it is.
In the Underworld, every living being is a unit with its own identifier, written at the top of its Stacia Window. Trace followed by that identifier designates the target by its system name rather than by your gaze: your elements hunt it wherever it is, behind a wall, at the far end of the village, fleeing into the forest.
Trace, Unit ID <ID>Reading a Unit ID
Open the creature's Stacia Window (see Stacia Window): its identifier is written in the Unit ID box, for instance [DCH20461].
| Unit | Format | Example |
|---|---|---|
| A person (player, villager) | 3 letters + 5 digits | DCH20461 |
| Any other living creature | 3 letters + 6 digits | TCB028791 |
The identifier never changes: the same creature keeps it as long as it exists, and every player sees it the same way. Write down a companion's or a rival's, it will come in handy.
Saying it
Trace, Trace Unit ID and Trace Object ID are equivalent; the identifier follows.
Type the identifier in one piece, without brackets:
System Call. Trace, Unit ID DCH20461. Generate Thermal Element. Discharge.
A beginning is enough if it is unique: trace dch or trace dch204.
Spell the letters in the radio alphabet and the digits one by one:
System Call. Trace, Unit ID, Delta Charlie Hotel, Two Zero Four Six One.
Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, India, Juliet, Kilo, Lima, Mike, November, Oscar, Papa, Quebec, Romeo, Sierra, Tango, Uniform, Victor, Whiskey, X Ray, Yankee, Zulu. Zero can be said "oh".
You can take a breath: after an incomplete Trace, you have 15 seconds to spell the rest, in as many sentences as needed. The incantation console shows the ID as it grows. And as soon as what you have spelled matches a single creature around you, the ID completes itself — "Trace, Delta Charlie Hotel" is often enough.
Partial identifiers
The server accepts a beginning of at least 3 characters, provided only one unit in your dimension starts that way:
| Situation | Answer |
|---|---|
| Exactly one unit matches | it is traced, a click confirms it |
| Several units match | refused: "[DCH] matches 3 units: spell a little more." |
| None | refused: "No unit answers to [DCH]." |
| Fewer than 3 characters | refused: no unit answers |
You cannot trace yourself; only living creatures answer.
What Trace changes
Once traced, the target replaces what you are aiming at for the rest of the incantation:
| Closing word | With a traced target |
|---|---|
Discharge (thrown shape) |
the elements chase it 4 times longer, with tighter turns, even out of sight — except Fly Straight, which gives up any pursuit |
Discharge (Vortex Shape) |
the whirlwind lands on it |
Adhere |
the element clings to it wherever it is |
| Grand Art | it falls on it, with no distance limit |
| Genesis | the Trace stands in for Anchor: Genesis strikes the target |
| Transfer Durability, Deep Freeze, Remove Core Protection | the spell targets it |
A new Trace replaces the previous one. If the target dies or leaves the dimension before the closing word, the incantation falls back to what you are looking at.
